January’s Animal Attraction | Japanese Macaque
Crissy is a 23-year-old Japanese macaque (also known as a snow monkey) who was born here in 1991. Her daughters Carmen, Laura and Griffin join her and four others in their habitat near the lions. Crissy is the matriarch of the dominant family of snow monkeys, who as a species have incredibly complex social dynamics, including a hierarchy of dominance. Because of her social standing, Crissy spends a lot of time being groomed, sitting by the hot tub sunning herself or at the top of the largest rock in the habitat, surveying the land. She enjoys any fruit or tree nut and prefers to be outdoors, especially in colder temperatures.
