Archive: Detroit Zoo Veggies Out With Healthy Eatery

July 29, 2015

The Detroit Zoo has introduced a grab-and-go eatery aimed to please even the most health-conscious visitor.  Pure Greens provides a farm-to-zoo experience by serving locally sourced vegetables and meats straight from Michigan farms to Zoo guests.

“Supporting our local farms and community while providing our visitors with fresh and healthy dining options benefits everyone,” said Gerry VanAcker, chief operating officer of the Detroit Zoological Society.

The Pure Greens menu is dairy-free and includes gluten-free and vegan selections.  The collaboration with local venders and farmers will result in an ever-changing seasonal menu.

Guests can choose a main seasonal dish accompanied by a side of twisted root salad, kale tabbouleh, or garlic and dill garbanzo beans.  All entrees are served on a bed of fresh Pure Greens salad blend.

Kid’s meals currently include a soy nut butter and fresh strawberry sandwich on gluten-free bread and a turkey wrap with whole-grain tortilla, both served with fresh vegetables.

Pure Greens is located near the Carousel and Arctic Café and is open daily, weather permitting.
