The Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) is seeking individuals 18 years and older to guide visitors back to the Mesozoic era when Dinosauria – the country’s largest exhibit of its kind with 40 animatronic prehistoric creatures – returns to the Detroit Zoo May 22 through Sept. 7, 2015. Volunteer “Dino Guides” will assist and educate visitors as they explore a recreation of prehistoric life on a 3-acre Dino Trail.

In addition to Dinosauria, volunteers are needed in the Detroit Zoo’s Arctic Ring of Life, Australian Outback Adventure and Wildlife Interpretive Gallery as well as at the Belle Isle Nature Zoo. No experience is necessary to become a DZS volunteer, and volunteers do not handle or feed the animals. Volunteers enjoy many benefits in exchange for their time, including discounts and an annual volunteer appreciation party.

Recruitment and training of volunteers begins this month to prepare for the peak summer season. The 2015 volunteer orientation dates are Saturday, March 21, 9-11:30 a.m.; Saturday, April 11, 9:30-11 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 9-11:30 a.m. and Wednesday, June 3, 6-8:30 p.m.
