Day at the Zoo

The Day at the Zoo (DATZ) program provides an opportunity for students to experience the Detroit Zoo by awarding financial assistance to classrooms where funds may be limited. Made possible by generous donors, including those who have contributed to the David K. Page Fund, school groups awarded funding through the DATZ program may choose to receive one of three experiences per school year.

Virtual Class includes:
1. Access to an age-appropriate virtual learning lab with a Zoo educator, including a pre- and post-activity.
2. Access to a virtual Zoo map, allowing you to explore the Zoo from your classroom.
3. A classroom set of age-appropriate books for preschool and elementary groups. -
In-Person Class includes:
1. Admission to the Zoo for all students.
2. Admission to the Zoo for one adult chaperone per every five students (maximum of seven chaperones).
3. An age-appropriate learning lab with a Zoo educator, including a pre- and post-activity.4. A bus transportation stipend. -
Hybrid (Virtual Class + In-Person Visit) includes:
1. Access to an age-appropriate virtual learning lab with a Zoo educator, including a pre- and post-activity.
2. Admission to the Zoo for students and one adult chaperone per every five students (maximum of seven chaperones, including the teacher) for a later date in the same school year.3. A bus transportation stipend.
The application for Spring 2025 will be available on January 1 until January 15 at 5 p.m.
