Detroit Zoological Society is Wild About Its Zookeepers
National Zookeeper Week observed July 19-25
July 15, 2015
In recognition of the dedication of its 50 zookeepers, the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) joins with other zoological institutions across the country in support of National Zookeeper Week July 19-25, 2015.
“Our zookeepers are passionate, caring and committed professionals responsible for ensuring that the animals at the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Zoo thrive, not just survive,” said DZS Chief Life Sciences Officer Scott Carter. “We’re happy to see their care and commitment acknowledged and to take part in this national celebration of what they do every day.”
In honor of National Zookeeper Week, the Detroit Tigers will pay tribute to the Detroit Zoo’s zookeepers before the start of the game against the Seattle Mariners at Comerica Park on July 20. Members of the Zoo’s animal care staff will be recognized on the field, and one lucky zookeeper will throw out the first pitch.
National Zookeeper Week is sponsored by the American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK), a non-profit volunteer organization made up of professional zookeepers and other interested persons from around the country who are dedicated to professional animal care and wildlife conservation.
