ROYAL OAK, Mich., April 9, 2012 – The Detroit Zoo’s Bunnyville event on April 7, 2012, set a new single-day attendance record of 19,234 visitors, topping the Zoo’s previous single-day record in the last decade of 18,264 set on Aug. 7, 2010.

In addition to Saturday’s robust turnout, the Detroit Zoo doubled projected attendance numbers for January and February and tripled projections for March.

“This is another sign of just how the community feels about this great zoo,” said Detroit Zoological Society Executive Director Ron Kagan.  “Families are taking advantage of the mild weather to get a dose of Vitamin Z.”

Bunnyville featured an Easter egg hunt, games, springtime crafts, whisker painting, live entertainment, animal enrichment and zookeeper talks.  Visitors who brought canned and other non-perishable food donations for Gleaners Community Food Bank received a reduced admission price of $6.  The Detroit Zoo collected more than 10,000 pounds of food at this year’s Bunnyville event, presented by Meijer.
