Over 2,100 “party animals” joined the Detroit Zoological Society and co-chairs Ashley Crain and Kelle Ilitch on Friday, June 13 for Sunset at the Zoo “Howling at the Moon,” the spectacular, creatively wild, 21-and-older annual fundraising gala. This year’s Sunset at the Zoo, presented by Strategic Staffing Solutions, supported the Detroit Zoo's future wolf habitat.

Guests enjoyed a superb strolling supper and dessert reception featuring signature dishes from more than 40 of metro Detroit’s best restaurants, plus a hosted bar featuring zoo-themed martinis and specialty drinks. Sunset offered a howling good time, with mystical entertainment, astronomical acts by the Detroit Flyhouse and dancing to The Jerry Ross Band. Plus, guests had the chance to win “zoonique” prizes in the live and silent auctions, and try their luck with the ever popular Sunset keys.

The VIP Reception, presented by the Detroit Jaguar Retailers, kicked off the evening’s festivities at the future wolf habitat. Later, guests strolled through the Zoo’s award-winning habitats at twilight and enjoyed a great party centered around the Rackham Fountain and the Events Pavilion.

Sunset at the Zoo is not just a great party – it raises critical funds to support the Detroit Zoological Society and our mission of Celebrating and Saving Wildlife. Despite the chilly weather, this year’s Sunset at the Zoo was the best yet—setting a new record for net revenue of more than $500,000!

Thank you to all of the incredibly generous sponsors, restaurants, distributors and individuals who donated their time, talents and resources to make this year the wildest event yet!
