(Haliaeetus leucocephalus)
The Detroit Zoo is home to three rescued bald eagles. Male Flash arrived at the Detroit Zoo in November 2009 after suffering a wing injury in Alaska that prevented his release back into the wild. Male Mr. America was moved to the Detroit Zoo in November 2017 from a rehabber in Vincennes, Indiana, after he sustained a severe wing injury that deemed him non-releasable. Female Captain Marvel has called the Detroit Zoo home since October 2019. Captain Marvel is believed to have collided with a train in Monroe, Michigan prior to her rescue, which resulted in a severe wing injury that left her unable to live in the wild.
