At the Detroit Zoo
The McCord’s box turtle can be found inside the Holden Reptile Conservation Center, located near the middle of the Detroit Zoo. There, visitors can learn about the 61 different species (and approximately 131 individuals) of reptiles at the Zoo, approximately 52 percent of which are considered threatened or endangered in the wild.

Description
McCord’s box turtles have yellow skin with brown and black stripes along their heads with brownish shells. They are able to completely protect themselves by bringing in their head and limbs.

  • McCord's box turtles were first discovered in a Chinese market in 1988 being sold as food.
