Animal Size

Audience: Kindergarten – Grade 1
Length of Program: 45 minutes
Cost: $50 per class, plus admission (maximum 35 students/7 chaperones)

How do you measure up?  Are you as tall as a tiger?  Do you have paws as big as a polar bear?  Students will use non-standard measurement to explore the amazing diversity of animal size.

See what lies beneath the surface of the water through this hands-on science exploration experience. Participants will take water samples from a lake on Zoo grounds and investigate how the aquatic food chain works in Michigan’s freshwater systems. This program is only offered September to October and March to June.

Alternative Dissection

Each year, millions of animals are dissected in schools. The Detroit Zoo offers a fun and interactive alternative. Come and experience animal “dissection” in a fun, hands-on way! Our Humane Science Lab is equipped with everything you need to participate in a full, alternative frog dissection without harming any animals.
