Education Events and Award Programs

GreenPrize Award Program

Be an eco-champion and make the world a greener place with GreenPrize!

The Detroit Zoological Society invites student groups in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties to participate in the 2023-2024 GreenPrize award program. This program encourages students to organize “EcoClubs” or “Green Teams” and lead a project in their school or community that benefits the planet and the environment.

Educator Open House

The Detroit Zoo is welcoming all educators to visit the Zoo and explore the resources available to help bring classroom learning to life. Admission is free for educators with current teaching credentials, pre-service teachers with student IDs, administrators and out-of-school-time educators. Family and friends may purchase discounted admission to join in on the fun.

Humane Youth Award

Do you know a young person who is taking action to help animals? If so, nominate them for the DZS Berman Academy for Humane Education’s 2022 Humane Youth Award. This award recognizes young people who embody the Berman Academy’s commitment to walking softly and treating the Earth’s creatures gently. At the same time, it provides them opportunities and resources to continue their great work and inspire others to do the same.

Day At The Zoo Award Program

The Day at the Zoo (DATZ) program allows students to explore and discover the Detroit Zoological Society when school funding is unavailable. School groups that are awarded funding through the DATZ program will receive admission, a transportation stipend and an educational program. The Detroit Zoological Society’s DATZ is funded by generous donors, including those who have contributed to the David K. Page Fund.

Funding cannot be guaranteed and is limited. ***Application periods are September 2023 and January 2024
