Web-Based Curriculum

Web-based curriculum is learner-driven and resource rich, providing opportunities to engage with real data and multi-media assets to match an immersive learning experience with schedule flexibility.

Careers at the Zoo
6-8 AND 9-12

For anyone who has ever wished or wondered what it would be like to work at a zoo, this learner-paced resource provides an inside look at careers at the wildest place in town. The online resource includes videos from several DZS professionals as they share their educational journeys and the skills that help them be successful in their work. Activities for learners to practice many of the highlighted skills are embedded in the curriculum.

Wolves on Isle Royale: Case Study

Isle Royale is home to the world’s longest continuous study of predator- prey relationships. This learner-paced curriculum uses real data through an interrupted case study model to bring learners into the decision making process of whether or not to introduce additional wolves to the island ecosystem and what the potential impacts will be if they do, or do not.
An optional synchronous meeting with Detroit Zoo Education staff can be scheduled to provide learners an opportunity to ask questions and reflect on their learning experience.

MS-LS2-5, HS-LS2-1, HS-LS4-5, HS-ESS3-3, HS-ETS1-3

$125 for the optional, synchronous “Meet an Expert”
Registration available on the course website.

Citizen Science: Science in the Classroom and at Home

Citizen Science, also known as Participatory Science, Community Science and Collaborative Science, is a gateway to building student interest in science concepts and STEM Literacy. The Detroit Zoological Society has curated a selection of projects that fit in with mandated science curriculum and can easily be extended to learning in out-of- school time.
