Ever wonder what the animals are up to as the sun goes down? Find out when you join us after hours for a Nocturnal Adventure at the Detroit Zoo!

During this exclusive, one-of-a-kind tour, you will get to explore the Zoo like never before and see animals you might not encounter during the day. Join a group of fellow animal lovers when you purchase a general admission ticket or enjoy an intimate experience when you sign up for a private evening!

Dates:

• June 13th: “Pollinator Power” – Recommended for Guests 8 and Up
  • Celebrate pollinators and their vital role in ecosystems in honor of National Pollinator Month. Focus on bees, butterflies, birds, and other pollinators.
  • Activities: Build-a-bug craft stations, and planting pollinator-friendly flowers.
• July 25th: “Summer Safari Night”- Recommended for Guests 8 and Up
  • Theme: Take advantage of the long summer evenings with a safari-themed adventure. Focus on animals from savannas and jungles around the world.
  • Activities: African drum circle talks about big cats and elephants, and “camping” stations with s’mores and storytelling.
• August 8th: “Nocturnal Nature”- Recommended for Guests 8 and Up
  • Shine a spotlight on nocturnal animals and how they thrive after dark. Focus on owls, bats, and other night-dwelling creatures.
  • Activities: Owl pellet dissection, guided night hikes, and participate in a firefly community science project.
• September 12th: “The Great Animal Quest”- Recommended for Guests 12 and Up
  • Theme: Embark on a thrilling challenge across the zoo, where participants solve clues, find hidden animal stations, and learn fun facts about the zoo’s inhabitants along the way.
  • Activities: Guests are teamed up with a staff member and given clues, which guide them to different animal exhibits. At each stop, they solve riddles or answer trivia to move to the next destination.
    • Expedition Passport: Guests receive a passport they can get stamped at each station. Collect all the stamps to complete the expedition and earn a special zoo prize.
• October 9th: “Spooky Safari”- Recommended for Guests 8 and Up
  • Theme: An evening of spooky fun, focusing on the creepiest and crawliest animals. Highlight misunderstood creatures like spiders, snakes, and bats.
  • Activities: Haunted zoo walk, pumpkin decorating, and dissecting owl pellets.
• November 7th: “Fall into Conservation”- Recommended for Guests 12 and Up
  • Theme: As autumn settles in, focus on conservation efforts and the importance of protecting wildlife during seasonal changes, and the tie into the zoo’s conservation initiatives.
  • Activities: Conservation-focused talk, leaf-themed art stations, star-gazing session, and a spotlight on local wildlife conservation projects.
