Lace up your running shoes!
Join thousands of runners and walkers as they lace up their running shoes for the annual Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo, sponsored by Ford Motor Company, on Sunday, September 10, 2017. The event includes 5K and 10K runs, the Too Wild! 5K+10K combo, plus a non-competitive 1.5-mile Fun Walk. Runners in the 5K and 10K events start at the Zoo’s 10 Mile Road entrance and wind through the scenic streets of Huntington Woods. Walkers follow a course past award-winning animal habitats as they stroll through Zoo grounds.
Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo raises critical funds for Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health Complex and veterinary care for the animals at the Detroit Zoo.
All participants receive a commemorative T-shirt, a Detroit Zoo water bottle and a finisher medal upon completion of the race.

Confirm Registration/Race Bib Number
Packets will be organized by race bib numbers, including the Fun Walk. We have started assigning these numbers in the database. Please click here to look up your race bib number. Please have your race number with you before coming to packet pick-up.
If you cannot find your number, it may not have been assigned quite yet. Please check back frequently to get your assigned number before arriving at packet pick-up. (If you don’t find your registration, check the email address in case a different email address was used during registration. Why We Run
Your support of the Detroit Zoological Society and Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo helps us provide the outstanding veterinary care that keeps the animals at the Detroit Zoo healthy.
Entry fees include a commemorative Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo T-shirt, finisher medal, entry into the Zoo immediately following the race plus complimentary food and beverages, entertainment and children’s activities at the Post-Race Party. Zoo admission is required for non-race participants. T-shirt availability is not guaranteed for registration after August 27. *Registration is required for people ages 2 and older.
*5K and 10K runners who wish to push a child older than 2 in a stroller during the race, please register your child under the Fun Walk pricing.
Online registration is available until 4 a.m. on Friday, September 8. Once it closes, participants can register on site at the Detroit Zoo at the Run Wild Registration Tent near Main Admissions during packet pick-up.

For the safety of all participants, bicycles, skateboards, roller blades, roller skates and animals are not allowed at Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo. Strollers are permitted for the Fun Walk and at the back of the 5K race. Only strollers designed for jogging/running will be allowed for the 10K race.
Chronotrack Timing System
Newton Timing will be the official timers of Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo using the ChronoTrack Timing System. 5K and 10K participants will have electronic timing tags attached to their race bib. In order to receive an accurate time, please confirm your bib is clearly visible on the front of the torso, unaltered and unmodified (do not fold or wrinkle), pinned in all four corners and not covered (jackets, runner belts, water bottles, etc.).
5K and 10K results will be available at the finish line and Post-Race Party shortly after the event. Same-day results will also be available here. Too Wild! times will be available online on Monday, Sept. 11.2017 Results
Packet Pickup and Registration
Packets will not be mailed. Packets will be organized by race bib number. Please check back closer to the event for your assigned number.
Packets can be picked up and guests can register at the front of the Detroit Zoo on the following dates and times:
- Friday, September 8, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Saturday, September 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Sunday, September 10, from 6 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
NOTE: Registration is available on the day of the race, Sunday, September 10, from 6 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Registration for each race will close a half hour prior to its designated race start time. Start timing mats will be turned off 10 minutes after the official start of each race. Participants starting after the equipment is turned off will be assigned gun time (time of the official race start).
Post-Race Party and Awards
All participants will receive a finisher medal upon completion of their race.
Medals are awarded to the top two male and female finishers in each age category for the 5K and 10K runs. Age categories are: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+. In addition, awards will be given to the overall top two male and female finishers and top one overall masters male and female (age 40+) for the 5K and 10K runs.
No age category awards will be given for the Too Wild! combo. Participants of the Too Wild! combo will receive a special Too Wild! medal upon completion of the combo.
Winners must pick-up their awards by 11:30 a.m. day of event at the medals tent located at the Post-Race Party in the Main Picnic Grove. Medals will not be mailed.
The Post-Race Awards Ceremony will take place immediately following the conclusion of the Run/Walk. The celebration will include entertainment, food, beverages, children’s activities and the Zoo’s award-winning habitats.

Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo has been recognized by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness as a quality physical activity event that significantly contributes to the health and well-being of Michigan residents. Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo raises funds to purchase equipment for the Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health Complex and veterinary care for the animals at the Detroit Zoo. Your help is needed to ensure that the animals receive the care they need to stay healthy. So whether you like to run or walk, support the Detroit Zoo and Run Wild with us!
If your friends or family want to support our cause but can’t make it to the race, or if they simply want to cheer you on as you help out a worthy organization, it’s now possible for them to sponsor you for the event through Crowdrise. The money will go toward taking care of the Zoo animals – the next best thing to running in the race.
