Lace up your running shoes!
Join thousands of runners and walkers as they lace up their running shoes for the annual Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo, sponsored by Ford Motor Company, on Sunday, September 9, 2018. The event includes 5K and 10K runs, the Too Wild! 5K+10K combo, plus a non-competitive 1.5-mile Fun Walk. Runners in the 5K and 10K events start at the Zoo’s 10 Mile Road entrance and wind through the scenic streets of Huntington Woods. New this year – runners will cross the finish line INSIDE the Zoo! Walkers follow a course past award-winning animal habitats as they stroll through Zoo grounds.
Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo raises critical funds for the Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health Complex and veterinary care for the animals at the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Center.
All participants receive a commemorative T-shirt, a Detroit Zoological Society water bottle and a collectible finisher medal upon completion of the race.
Event takes place rain or shine. On Race Day, please plan to arrive early. 10 Mile Road will close for the 5K and 10K races, so expect heavy traffic.
Why We Run
Your support of the Detroit Zoological Society and Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo helps us provide outstanding veterinary care for the animals at the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Center.
Entry fees include a commemorative Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo T-shirt*, collectible finisher medal, a Detroit Zoological Society water bottle and entry into the Zoo immediately following the race (all participants must present race bib and enter the Zoo by 11:30 a.m. to receive complimentary admission), plus food and beverages, entertainment and children’s activities at the Post-Race Party. (*T-shirt availability is not guaranteed for registration after August 27.)
Registration is required for participants ages 2 and older.
Spectators: NEW! This year’s 5K/10K finish line is INSIDE the Zoo. We are changing the route and finish line location so we can use the two parking lots at the front of the Zoo and ease traffic congestion. Those wishing to see their family or friends finish the race must pay for entry into the Zoo. Special Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo spectator admission covers access to the finish line, the Post-Race Party and admission to the Zoo for the day. Spectator admission does not include a T-shirt or finisher medal. Spectator admission for this special event can be purchased in conjunction with race registration or during packet pickup hours. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children (ages 2-12). Spectators with wristbands must enter the Zoo by 9:30 a.m. Please note, Members cannot use their Membership to get into the Zoo until it opens to the general public at 10 a.m. Members who wish to participate in Run Wild must register for the event, and those who want to watch the finish must purchase spectator admission, as this is a before-hours special event.
Online registration is available until 10 p.m. on Thursday, September 6. Once it closes, participants can register on site at the Detroit Zoo at the Run Wild Registration Tent near Main Admissions during packet pickup. (For hours, see “Packet Pickup and Registration”, below.)
All registrations are final. No refunds.
Due to the proximity of animal habitats near the finish line, we ask that spectators do not bring in any noise makers (e.g., cow bells, whistles, air horns, etc.). Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
