Archive: A Different Crowd When the Sun Goes Down: Detroit Zoo 21+ Events Return

May 6, 2022

ROYAL OAK, Mich.,

Late nights at the Detroit Zoo are back.

Grab your ID and head to the Zoo for the wildest cocktail hour around. Whether it’s for a fun date, a friends’ night out or simply time spent outdoors, you’ll enjoy an evening of drinks, games, live entertainment, habitat chats and themed photo opportunities. The After Hours 21+ Event Series, presented by KeyBank, includes Zoo Brew, Summer Sips, Spooky Spirits and Polar Beers.

Adults 21 and older are invited to enjoy the Zoo without any children at these casual, happy hour-style events. A limited time package that includes admission and parking passes to all four events is available now through May 21 for $175. General admission tickets to individual events are $50 each.

First up is Zoo Brew, featuring a selection of more than 80 craft beers from Michigan breweries. Admission includes 10 beer tastings with additional tasting tickets and food available for purchase. While here, you can challenge your friends and family to inflatable axe throwing or giant beer pong – just some of the new activities planned for 2022.

This year’s Zoo Brew highlights vulture conservation and will raise awareness for VulPro, a nonprofit organization in South Africa where vultures Kassie, Mrs. Nasty, Nelly, Fiona and Zeke moved to from the Detroit Zoo to restore wild populations.

After Hours event dates and times include:
Zoo Brew – 6 to 10 p.m. May 21
Summer Sips – 6 to 10 p.m. July 29
Spooky Spirits – 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 14
Polar Beers – 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 8

From the opportunity to hear your favorite Jimmy Buffet tunes at Summer Sips to the chance to see the Detroit Zoo’s famous Wild Lights at Polar Beers, each installment of the After Hours series is also sponsored by Griffin Claw Brewing Company and offers an experience you won’t want to miss.

VIP and Designated Driver tickets are also available for each event. For more information, visit detroitzoo.org/events/zoo-events.

“We couldn’t be happier to welcome everyone back for our lively, in-person events,” said CEO and Executive Director Hayley W. Murphy. “It’s an exciting time. Dinosauria, Senior Day, Sunset at the Zoo, Yoga at the Zoo, GreenFest and Run Wild are all also planned for this summer. Your participation supports our mission of Celebrating and Saving Wildlife and Wild Places.”

Let’s raise a glass to that!
