Archive: All Sights, No Frights: Zoo Boo is Back for Three Weekends in October

September 16, 2022

ROYAL OAK, Mich.,

This October, a spell will be cast over the Detroit Zoo.

Zoo Boo, the Detroit Zoo’s annual merry-not-scary event presented by Beaumont Children’s, is returning for three weekends to get guests of all ages in the Halloween spirit. Zoo Boo will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 8-9, 15-16 and 21-23. The Zoo will close at 1 p.m. on those days to prepare for the event.

New this year are special themed weekends. Detroit Zoo staff will decorate the park to each weekend’s theme — whether they are celebrating local heroes, wild animals or witches and wizards. All costumes are welcome at Zoo Boo, but guests looking to get in on the extra-special fun are encouraged to dress up according to each weekend’s theme.

Themes include:

  • Wildlife and Wild Places — Oct. 8-9
  • Witches, Warlocks and Werewolves, Oh My! — Oct. 15-16
  • Heroes and Villains — Oct. 21-23

Zoo Boo is fun for the whole family,” said Brittany Gardner, public events manager for the Detroit Zoological Society. “We can’t wait to see the Zoo filled with families dressed up in their most creative costumes for one of our best celebrations of the year.”

All 125 acres of the Zoo will be open for guests to enjoy trick-or-treating, education stations, Halloween face painting and habitat chats, themed photo opportunities and strolling entertainment from jugglers, magicians and more. The animals who call the Zoo home will get to enjoy Halloween treats as well, as special animal enrichments will take place each day.

Zoo Boo admission ranges from $17 to $23, with children younger than 2 admitted for free. Space is limited, and prices vary subject to time and date. Tickets may be purchased online or on site at Customer Care during daytime Zoo hours. All tickets must be purchased in advance; walk-up tickets will not be sold at the gate.
