Archive: Stressed? Outdoor Yoga Returns to the Detroit Zoo

Detroit Zoological Society offering in-person and virtual sessions

July 15, 2020

ROYAL OAK, Mich.,

It’s time for the community to grab their mats and masks, because outdoor yoga is returning to the Detroit Zoo in August. Yoga at the Zoo will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., beginning August 4. Guests 13 years of age and older will have a unique opportunity to participate in an early-morning meditative flow with a certified yoga instructor.

“It’s important to find the time to relax – especially when you’re going through a stressful experience,” said Ron Kagan, executive director and CEO of the Detroit Zoological Society. “We’re happy to be able to offer a peaceful workout while helping people connect with nature.”

Yoga at the Zoo sessions will take place at various animal habitats, followed by a zookeeper talk. Yoga at the Zoo is a rain-or-shine event; the rain location will be the Events Pavilion.

Due to the current public health crisis and in accordance with state of Michigan orders, participants are required to wear masks and adhere to physical distancing markers. Mat locations will be marked in advance and guests will need to bring their own yoga mat and water bottle.

The cost per in-person session is $25 and includes Detroit Zoo admission and parking. A new virtual option will also be offered this year for $12. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.dzoo.org/yoga.
