Annual holiday light display starts November 18

November 8, 2017

ROYAL OAK, Mich.,

Fans of the Detroit Zoo’s Wild Lights have the opportunity to show that their hometown zoo’s spectacular holiday light display is the best of the best. USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards has selected the Detroit Zoo as a contender in its Best Zoo Lights contest.

Twenty zoos throughout the country are in contention for the top spot, leaving the final decision to the public. Wild Lights fans can vote every day – and on multiple devices – through noon on Dec. 4 at http://www.10best.com/awards/travel/best-zoo-lights/wild-lights-at-the-detroit-zoo-detroit/.

“Wild Lights is a breathtaking and magical experience. To have the community vote their zoo’s light display into the No. 1 spot would be a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season,” said Ron Kagan, Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) executive director and CEO.

Wild Lights, presented by Strategic Staffing Solutions, features more than five million LED lights illuminating buildings, trees and more than 230 animal sculptures along a path through the front half of the Detroit Zoo. Wild Lights will be held Nov. 18-19 and 24-26 and Dec. 1-3, 8-10, 15-17, 20-23 and 26-31, 2017. Tickets are $10-$16 in advance – based on the hour and day – and $16 at the gate for guests ages 2 and older (children under 2 are admitted free); parking is $7.
