Youth at the Detroit Zoo
The future starts here. At the Detroit Zoo, the next generation of wildlife leaders gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to protect the planet.

Camps
Prepare your favorite camp songs and meet us at the Detroit Zoo for Summer Camp! Learn about animal care, how to design a zoo, and the different animal behaviors during our week-long and two-day camps.

Safari Slumbers
When the last guest leaves for the day, we invite you to stay! Step into a world of wonder as the sun sets and the Zoo transforms into a realm of nocturnal activity.

Nocturnal Adventures
Ever wonder what the animals are up to as the sun goes down? Find out when you join us after hours for a Nocturnal Adventure at the Detroit Zoo!

Volunteens
Have a heart as big as the jungle? Make a difference at the Detroit Zoo! With volunteer opportunities every season for every age group, you’re sure to find the right fit.

Zoo Tots
Quality time with your little one just got better. Zoo Tots is an eight-week program for preschool-aged children and adults to bond over their love for animals.

GreenPrize
Be an eco-champion and earn a prize! We encourage student groups from Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties to join the GreenPrize Award Program, encouraging them to establish “EcoClubs” or “Green Teams.” This program empowers students to lead projects in their schools or communities that benefit the planet and the environment.

Scouts
The Detroit Zoo’s main campus discontinued Scout Badge Workshops in January 2025.
If your troop or den is interested in earning a badge, we encourage you to explore options at the Belle Isle Nature Center. With the wildlife of metro Detroit as your backdrop, the Nature Center is the perfect place for all your scout needs! Learn more.
If you are interested in exploring alternative options at the Detroit Zoo, please consider the programming options below. While these experiences do not meet badge requirements, they provide meaningful educational experiences and ways for participants to engage with the Zoo’s many wonders!
