Join us as we open all 125 acres of the Detroit Zoo for Zoo Boo! This annual “merry-not-scary” family event is now bigger and better than ever with more animals and habitats to see, more rides and attractions to enjoy and earlier hours!

Family-friendly crowd favorites from past Zoo Boo events will return, including dazzling and daring aerialists, mesmerizing mimes, superhero reenactments, a joking juggler and height-defying stilt-walkers. Take a trip through the never-ending corn maze, check out the pumpkin smasher and make friends with haunted creatures while enjoying the fabulous pumpkin displays. A festively decorated treat trail, photo opportunities and educational activities will be located throughout the Zoo, ensuring your entire experience is filled with merry memories for adults and kids alike.

New this year! The entire Zoo will be open until dark, allowing you to visit your favorite animals throughout. You will also have the option to purchase tickets to a 15-minute version of “The Wizard of Oz 4-D Experience” at the Wild Adventure Zone in the Ford Education Center, or purchase tickets to take a ride on the Tauber Family Railroad!

Zoo Boo will be held on the afternoons of October 11-13, October 18-20 and October 25-27. These Friday, Saturday and Sunday events will run from 3 to 7:30 p.m. with last entry at 6:30 p.m. Advance ticket purchase is encouraged! Walk-up tickets will only be sold between 5:30 and 6 p.m.

Advance tickets start at $10 per person for ages 2 and older. Children younger than 2 are admitted free.  Tickets can be purchased at Window One at the front of the Zoo or online. Pre-sale time slots for Zoo Boo are 3 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tickets for 5:30 p.m. will only be available as walk-up tickets, which close for entry at 6:30 p.m.  Guests entering after 5:30 p.m. will pay a lower ticket price and receive access to the traditional Zoo Boo trail only, as timing will not allow for these guests to visit the entire Zoo. Parking is $8 per car for all Zoo Members and guests.  Zoo Boo is a rain-or-shine event; no refunds or exchanges.

Tips for a Safe and Happy Halloween from Beaumont Children’s

Whether preparing costumes, decorating the house or trick-or-treating, Halloween fun also requires attention to safety.

  • Costumes: Be sure to wear flame-resistant costumes, and use face paint instead of a mask, which can limit visibility.
  • Pumpkin Carving: Take your time and allow yourself enough space to carve safely.
  • Trick-or-Treating: Stick to well-lit areas and walk in groups.
