Day at the Zoo

What the Day at the Zoo Program Provides

The Day at the Zoo (DATZ) program provides an opportunity for students to experience the Detroit Zoo by awarding financial assistance to classrooms where funds may be limited. Made possible by generous donors, including those who have contributed to the David K. Page Fund. Funding cannot be guaranteed and is limited. When the number of applications exceeds available funds, a lottery system will be used to determine which applications are funded.

In-Person Class includes:

  • Admission to the Zoo for all students.
  • Admission to the Zoo for one adult chaperone per every five students (maximum of seven chaperones).
  • An age-appropriate learning lab with a Zoo educator, including a pre- and post-activity.
  • A bus transportation stipend.

Application Deadlines

The application for the 2026-2027 school year will open September 1 at 8 a.m. EST and will close on September 13 at 5 p.m. EST.

The next application will open on December 1, 2026, and will remain open for a minimum of five days.
