Lappet-faced Vulture

(Torgos tracheliotos)

The Detroit Zoo is home to a committee of two lappet-faced vultures. These African birds are easily identified by their bare, pink heads and the fleshy folds on the sides of their necks. Their beaks are incredibly strong and are known to tear through elephant and rhino hide.
