Lions Day at the Detroit Zoo

Celebrate football season with Roary, Lions cheerleaders, real lions and a chance to win a family Zoo membership. Wear your gear!

A Roaring Good Time

Ready for a legendary Saturday in metro Detroit? We’re calling all Detroit Lions fans (and animal lovers) to join us for Lions Day at the Detroit Zoo, a one-day event that brings together the state’s favorite football team and one of its most iconic destinations.

This is your chance to bring the whole pride — grandparents, kiddos, jersey-wearing toddlers and die-hard fans alike — and celebrate the spirit of Detroit with the power of wildlife.

What to Expect

  • Performances with the Detroit Lions Cheer Team (11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in front of the Ron Kagan Wildlife Interpretive Gallery)
  • A special lions-themed education station (11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the lion habitat)
  • A Zookeeper Chat (11:30 a.m. at the lion habitat)
  • A meet-and-greet with a Detroit Lions special guest (Noon – 1 p.m. at the Renaissance Circle by Rackham Fountain)
  • Appearances by Roary the mascot (2:30 – 3:30 p.m.)
  • An appearance from the Detroit Lions Drumline (In front of the Ron Kagan Wildlife Interpretive Gallery)
  • Entry into a family membership giveaway (Throughout the day at the table at the lion habitat)
  • 10% off select retail items for anyone wearing Lions gear
  • Honolulu blue-berry boba with silver shimmer at Griffin Claw Gather Beer Garden (Available for purchase)
  • Lattes topped with lion art at Coffee Corner (Available for purchase)
