Join Us in Celebrating Mother Earth at the Detroit Zoo
What better time to celebrate Mother Earth than on Mother’s Day? Our eighth annual GreenFest will be dedicated to celebrating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, observed in late April.
GreenFest will offer the chance to meet green-minded organizations active in our communities, explore citizen science opportunities and learn how to implement sustainable strategies in your daily life, whether it be participating in beach clean-ups or urban planting within your community.
Planting trees and other vegetation directly combats climate change since they absorb carbon dioxide that would otherwise build up in our atmosphere as a greenhouse gas. Trees also improve air quality, prevent erosion and provide shade. To inspire environmental stewardship and conservation action, the DZS will be handing out tree seedlings, starter vegetable plants and pollinator seeds at GreenFest for guests to take home and plant.
