The Ultimate Wild Sleepover Awaits

Safari Slumbers offers your school group, scout troops or youth organization an exclusive backstage pass to the Detroit Zoo. This immersive overnight adventure transforms the Zoo into your own private classroom. From 6 p.m. to 9 a.m., your little explorers will enjoy guided night hikes led by experts, curriculum-based challenges and a pizza dinner before settling in for a unique sleepover and continental breakfast at the Ford Education Center. Plus, the magic continues with full-day Zoo admission included for the following day!

Safari Slumbers Timeline

  • 6 - 6:30 p.m. | Arrival: Meet your guides at the Rackham Fountain Member Entrance. 
  • 6:15 - 7 p.m. | Dinner: Pizza, salad and refreshments.
  • 7 - 9 p.m. | Night Hike: A guided trek through the habitats led by Zoo educators.
  • 9 - 10:30 p.m. | Activities & Campfire: Group learning challenges followed by s’mores.
  • 11 p.m. | Lights Out: Turn in at the Ford Education Center for the evening.
  • 6:30 - 9 a.m. | Morning Routine: Wake up, continental breakfast and morning hike.
  • 9 a.m. | Checkout: Program concludes. Your group gets free Zoo admission for the day.

Choose Your Adventure

Group Rates 

  • Tri-County Residents: $125 per person
  • Non-Tri-County Residents: $150 per person
  • Chaperones: One adult chaperone attends FREE for every 10 children

Booking Requirements & Accommodations

Group Sizes: Minimum of 20 participants; maximum of 90.

Age Limits: Children must be at least 6 years old or in the first grade.

Sleeping Arrangements: Groups sleep in the second-floor classrooms of the Ford Education Center.
