Organize, Strategize, Earn a GreenPrize

GreenPrize is a school-based sustainability program run by the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS). It’s designed to help southeast Michigan schools reduce cafeteria waste, engage students in real-world environmental learning and build momentum toward Michigan Green School recognition, all at no cost to your school.

This year, we’re awarding six schools a pre-packaged Zero Waste School Lunch bundle – selected by raffle – each valued at $1,500.

Whether you’re an established Green Team, Eco Club, or just getting started, GreenPrize gives you the tools, resources and guidance to put green ideas into action.

NOTE: The GreenPrize 2025 application period has ended. Please check back in 2026 or join our email list to be notified when next year’s applications open.

Why This Matters

GreenPrize is one of the ways we support southeast Michigan schools in building long-term sustainability habits. If you’re looking for a hands-on way to get students involved in waste reduction and could use some help making it happen, this is for you.
