Beat the winter blues this season during our Wild Winter Weekends at the Detroit Zoo. Wild Winter is a unique, fun way to experience the magic of the Zoo in winter. Enjoy your favorite habitats indoors and out along with special activities, including children’s music, zookeeper talks, crafts and much more.
January 17 and 18 - Wild Winter Arctic Adventure
This event kicks off Wild Winter Weekends. The first in the series, Wild Winter Arctic Adventure, features ice carving demonstrations (located in the Events Pavilion), arctic-themed arts and crafts, games and entertainment. All activities other than ice carving and zookeeper talks are located in the Ford Education Center.
February 7 and 8 - Wild Winter African Adventure
Celebrate Black History Month with an African drum lesson and listen to stories told by Kenyan naturalist and Detroit Zoo Education Specialist David Gakure. Enjoy live entertainment, arts and crafts, games and educational experiences. All activities are located in the Ford Education Center.
March 7 and 8 - Wild Winter Safari Social
Escape the winter “blahs” with hot drinks and cool treats. Ice cream and hot cocoa will be available for purchase at a discount. Arts and crafts, temporary tattoos, animal enrichment activities, talks by the Zoo’s expert keepers and a winter safari scavenger hunt add to the fun.
