The DZS is a renowned leader in wildlife conservation, animal welfare, environmental sustainability and humane education. Please note: all adult volunteers are required to complete and pass a criminal background check and will need to provide the date of their Covid-19 vaccination.
The Detroit Zoological Society does not participate in court-ordered community service.

  • How Does it work – Volunteer Opportunities

    Steps to become a volunteer:

    1.   Complete an on-line application
    2.   Receive and return a background check form
      please note: all adult volunteers are required to complete and pass a criminal background check
    3.   Receive an invitation to attend an on-line new volunteer orientation
    4.   Sign up and attend on-line orientation
    5.   Purchase required uniform t-shirt ($10.00)
    6.   Start volunteering!
